HOME REMEDY FOR CHEST CONGESTION RELIEF

What is CHEST CONGESTION –

Chest congestion is a common ailment and many people suffer from the same. However, it may indicate other health issues or diseases for example respiratory tract infection or a heart condition.

A common infection in the respiratory system results in chest congestion.

It is accompanied with a feeling of tightness or heaviness in the heart region.

Breathing may become difficult due to this tightness in the chest.

However, it is it important to take medical advice at this time as some of the causes may be life threatening.

Many over-the-counter medications are often used to treat the stuffiness and discomfort caused by congestion but many simple home remedies also give a lot of relief.

Try some of these home remedies given below –

STEAM INHALATION

Take some water in a steamer or use a bowl of steaming hot water.

To it add a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Now wrap a towel around your head and around the steamer or bowl, please keep your face at a safe distance from the hot water. Breathe in the steam for about 10 to 15 minutes. This helps in loosening the Phlegm and you will feel better. Take this hot steam vapor 3 to 4 times in a day for quick relief from congestion.

HUMIDIFIER

Humidifiers are effective in loosening the mucous congestion by adding moisture to the air. This helps in thinning the mucus in your chest and clogged nose.

A word of caution – Please keep your humidifier clean so that there is no growth of bacteria on it.

HOT WATER

It is very good to drink Hot Water, it helps in liquifying the thick phlegm which causes congestion.

GARGLE with hot water to which some salt has been added, also helps in reducing the phlegm. Also by keeping a hot water bottle over your chest will ease the pain and help loosen the mucus over that area.

LEMON & HONEY

Honey is excellent for congestion specially when coupled with Lemon.

Mix a teaspoon of honey with warm water and drink it. This will reduce the congestion and cough for several hours. Honey has antibacterial properties which reduces the infection of the respiratory tract.

Mix a glass of hot water, to it add a teaspoon of lemon juice and honey and drink it like tea. Drink this mix three to four times a day to help loosen the congestion.

GINGER & PEPPER

Mix a teaspoon of honey with some Ginger paste and have this a couple of times during the day. This helps in reducing cough and congestion. Adding Ginger to your tea also relives the same.

Add one small piece of ginger in hot water. Add two or three black pepper in the water and strain it in a glass. Stir it well adding one tablespoon of honey to it. This also is very effective.

GARLIC

Take 3 to 4 cloves of Garlic and put it in 4 tablespoon of Mustard oil, heat this mixture till the galic becomes brown. Cool the oil down and rub it on your chest and forehead. This provides tremendous relief from congestion.

ONOINS

Onion is one of the best remedies for chest congestion. They can be used cooked or raw for reducing congestion. You can eat raw onion with some honey a couple of times during the day, this helps a lot.

Make a thin paste, of one Onion. Press this paste and take out the juice. Add two tablespoons of water in it and add four tablespoons of lemon juice and two tablespoons of honey in the mixture. Stir it well and heat it to lukewarm. Have this twice a day.

TURMERIC or HALDI

Take a teaspoon of HALDI and add it to a cup of hot milk. Drink this up, this is very effective due to the antiseptic and healing properties of HALDI.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Apple cider vinegar is very effective remedy specially for chest congestion.

The mucus which is caused in the chest and throat, ACV helps by killing the bacteria which causes it. It relieves congestion a lot. ACV is bad to taste but is very effective. Take a shot of apple cider vinegar. Do this every 8 to 10 hours for best results.
